Trust your training and focus on the process, not the results
Before each race, don’t think about what place you are going to get. Think about your start, your finish and controlling the controllables. You’ve prepared for this and you are ready!
Swim down after each race to reset your body and your mind
Do a light swim down after every race, use this to reset your body and your mind. If you have a disappointing race, leave it behind in your warm down. Look ahead, there is nothing you can do about a race that is over.
Be smart about fuelling and hydrating your body
SLS Carnivals can be gruelling competitions so don’t let your performance be negatively impacted by letting your energy reserves become depleted. Eat, drink, eat, drink, eat, drink….. even if you don’t feel like it. Follow @alimiles_dietitian for some very useful and practical tips for young athletes.
Be grateful!
Thank your parents, your coaches, the water safety and always thank an official before you walk off the beach. All of these people dedicate their time so that you are able to participate in this awesome sport that you love.
Encourage your friends and your team mates and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
Be the person who is happy for others when they do well and encourages others to do their best. Enjoy every minute of racing, learn from your mistakes, celebrate your success and be proud of what you achieve.
